Winter Snow Essentials for Women

Five snow-specific products that put aesthetics on par with form and function

For those in the Northern Hemisphere, winter is here to stay (at least for the next few months) and while it may seem grim, it also means getting back to all your favorite cold weather activities. For many who are drawn to the mountains, skiing and snowboarding are two of the most enjoyable, accessible ways to make the most of the chilly season—but the only way to do that is with the right gear. There are plenty of brands for men, but fewer for women—and fewer still that don’t sacrifice aesthetics for form and function. After we trawled some of the season’s newest offerings, we’ve gathered five winter essentials for ladies looking to hit the slopes this year.

Patagonia Untracked Jacket

The Untracked Jacket is made from three-layer, wind- and waterproof GORE-TEX. It is handsomely equipped with a snow skirt for deep days and endless pockets for phones, goggles, passes and more. We are particularly excited about the Untracked’s fit, which is ideal. It offers feminine lines without being too tight and it’s a great length—not too short, but also not too long—providing optimal movement.

Trew Chariot Bibs

It might not be official, but the bib is back. Not only in Hotdog fashion, but also in performance outerwear. Trew’s Chariot bibs are offered in high-tech 3-L fabric construction with extreme articulation, making them the most comfortable, stylish and rugged snow bibs around—with a throwback twist at that.

Dragon Alliance Advanced

With a super anti-fog treated dual lens made from molded polycarbonate, this year’s Dragon Alliance X2 gives the wearer optimum vision in changing weather conditions. Having been so impressed with last year’s, we decided to include the latest iteration for good measure.

L1 Heartbreaker Premium

If bibs are not in your future, L1’s Heartbreaker pants are as agile as snowboard pants can get. Using a durable 8,000 mm / 8,000 breathable resilient shell strong enough for all terrain rides, the five-pocket, slim-fit pants are modern, unlike most typical bulky snow pant offerings out there.

Hestra + Backcountry.com Exclusive Fall Line Mitten

The classic Swedish brand is the “haut monde” of hand-protection, and their recent collaboration with Backcountry.com is no exception. The Hestra + Backcountry.com exclusive mittens are constructed with a waterproof cowhide shell and lined with ultra warm Bemberg insulation. The neoprene hook & loop cuff protects against moisture while creating a tight-seal. But the best feature of this glove is the comfort—imagine a lightweight pillow wrapped around each hand.
