A Family Growing 6,000 lbs of Produce Annually at Home

A California family grows up to 6,000 lbs of produce each year in just their back yard—a space that’s one-tenth of an acre. The Dervaes family, who call their mini-farm the “Urban Homestead,” started it 30 years ago as a means to reconnect with their food sources and to be more environmentally responsible. Their harvests save them up to $75,000 per year on food costs and can earn them around $20,000 after selling the surplus. Read their incredible story at Collective Evolution.
